The primary goal of the CLEUIM (Jean Monnet Chair in Law of the EU Internal Market) is to equip young professionals and the Montenegrin legal community for Montenegro's expected EU membership. This is especially pertinent considering Montenegro's position as a frontrunner for the next EU Member State.
Recognized as by far the largest law school in Montenegro, as well as the single public one, Faculty of Law University of Montenegro previously conducted Jean Monnet Module in Law of the EU Internal Market through MLEUIM project, creating the new educational programme in EU Internal Market Law as part of Business law department on two-year master studies (LLM programme).
The main goal of both MLEUIM and now CLEUIM projects is to increase awareness of both Montenegrin legal profession and general public of the importance of creating a system of continuous and methodical education in the field of EU Internal Market law, particularly so in light of Montenegro being the candidate country closest to reaching the full EU membership, as well as to better prepare young professionals for the tough challenge of becoming lawyers in an EU Member State and consequentially boost their professional capacities and employability rate.
By acquiring systematic knowledge through master programme, participation in conferences and panel discussions organized within the project, generation of students who attended curriculum thought CLEUIM (and previously MLEUIM) will become the first formally educated generations about the European internal market in Montenegro. These generations will have the strong potential for helping the preparation of Montenegrin legal profession to coop with soon to come very demanding challenges of the full EU membership.
A number of master’s thesis topics related to EU law of the internal market will be approved by the end of the project, encouraging young researchers to work on new topics in this, for Montenegro, insufficiently researched field. Not only that the project activities will lead to innovations in the legal academic research sphere, but it will also play a significant role in legal practice, as it would prepare other important socio-political actors for the requirements of European regulation.
In the long run, project's mission is to have a number of positive consequences for the legal community in Montenegro. Namely, to enhance employability of young jurists, improve career prospects for young graduates, increase opportunities for academic staff for professional and career development, support young researchers and professors of EU subjects, as well as to increase interest in understanding and participating in the European Union, which leads to a more active citizenship and improvement for a society as a whole.
