Who was Jean Monnet?

Jean Omer Marie Gabriel Monnet was born on 9 November 1888 in the city of Cognac, France. Today recognized as "Father of Europe", Monnet was an influential supporter of European unity and is considered to be the main inspiration behind the famous "Schuman Declaration" of 9 May 1950, which led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. Later, the date of the Declaration has been adopted as Europe Day by the European Union and it is generally considered as the birth date of the Union.

Making operational the internal market, which is raison d'être of all European integrations, has always been the greatest challenge for European regulators, as well as for the Court of Justice. Throughout the decades, their efforts gave birth to what we now understand as the law of the EU internal market, arguably the most important segment of the entire EU law. Being that Montenegro is by far the most advanced candidate country and probably the next EU member state, the University of Montenegro Faculty of law saw fit to further increase its efforts to transfer the knowledge about this key segment of EU law to Montenegrin lawyers...

About Jean Monnet Programme?

Jean Monnet Programme is a part of Erasmus+ Programme, designed in order to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide. Jean Monnet consist of a various activities focused on creating interest in the EU and constituting the basis for future poles of European knowledge, enhancing the understanding of EU functioning methods, as well as on promotion of other relatable EU topics. Some of such activities are Jean Monnet Modules, Chairs, Centres of Excellence, Networks, Projects or Support to Associations.
